confident black womanMy oldest son has had this fixation about severe weather for as long as I can remember.  He was born in South Florida. Land of the hurricane season. And he was actually born one day before Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005.  Maybe that’s why he’s always been so interested in tornadoes, hurricanes and blizzards!

Any time we travel to a new state he asks about the likelihood of severe weather in that region. If they have hurricanes, tornadoes or God forbid earthquakes he wants no part of that vacation!

What is this all about?

Well my best guess is that my little boy wants to live somewhere that is safe. Somewhere that he can be sure that his whole environment is not going to turn upside down on a moments notice.

We all want that to some extent don’t’ we?

But our kids really crave it. And most of the time, while we cannot control the weather, we moms do a really good job of being the “shelter” and stability our kids need to be confident individuals.

But what about us?  When things beyond our control go “crazy” how do we stay grounded?

Well here are 4 simple ways you can find and keep your confidence and sense of security no matter what the situation brings.

1.Observe Nature

Here’s the thing about nature.  It doesn’t matter what happens. How many storms come or how many days we go without storms.  Nature has a way of balancing itself out. We may have a drought one year or even 5 years, and that drought (historically) will be followed by years of abundant rain.

If we can understand that the same “balancing” process that happens in nature also is at work in our own lives it will save us a bunch of grief and help us remember that we really do live in a stable and secure environment.

To recognize this, think back to a time where your life seemed to be the craziest. Since then, hasn’t there been times of calm and peace?  Has it stayed “crazy” indefinitely? Of course there have been times of calm, because that’s just how Life goes.

2.Recognize that This Too Shall Pass

I have to remind myself of this a lot. And this idea goes hand in hand with realizing that everything in life and nature balancing itself out.

The fact of the matter is NOTHING in this physical world is permanent.  And that can bring us some confidence in and of itself.  When we know nothing will last forever we can rest in the times of crazy with the security that it will be over soon.

3.Extract the Lesson

I personally believe that EVERYTHING works to my good.  And the same is true for you!

Let me repeat that:  EVERYTHING IS WORKING TO YOUR GOOD.

So what does this have to do with your confidence?  If you know everything is working to your good, even the bad stuff, then you can be sure that you are learning something in those times of chaos that will make you stronger, wiser and “better” after you’ve gone through it.

When you see everything in your life as a learning opportunity, “problems” become….. well, less of a problem. And with each problem that you overcome, you build greater and greater confidence.

4.Balance your root chakra

The yogi in me couldn’t talk about confidence and security without talking about our chakras.

A chakra is an energy center. We have 7 main chakras in our body that correlate with what neuroscientists call nerve plexuses.

The root or muladhara chakra is located at the base of your spine.  This center is responsible for the energy of security, groundedness and confidence.  When the root chakra is out of balance you may feel, unworthy, lost or as if the rug can be swept out from under your feet at any moment.

On the other hand, when your muladhara chakra is in balance you feel confident, secure and like you can handing anything that comes your way.

Isn’t that a great way to feel!
