Spiritual Effects of Negativity – Does Violent TV Really Matter?

My husband loves to watch reality pawn store shows. Pawn Stars on the History Channel is his favorite of the sort. I actually like this show for the historical facts I learn about each item brought into the store.

But my husband also likes to watch the OTHER pawn store shows, like Hard Core Pawn.

This show, on the other hand, features a bunch of pawn store owners whose shop is (most likely) located in a poor neighborhood in Detroit. The people that come into the shop to do business often insult the workers. And the owners of the shop often greedily try to get as much money out of a sale as they can (no matter how unfair the transaction is).

In other words, this show and other reality shows of the sort, feature the absolute lowest common denominator of our society.

The disrespectful, the shameless and the greedy.

Moms Need Girlfriends Too- 6 Tips To Make New Friends!

They’re here. At the next table. Talking. Laughing. Sharing. Just enjoying each other’s company.

Who are they?

They are the group of four young women meeting for coffee, cheesecake and some lively catch up conversation.

And even though I’m here writing, I’m enjoying witnessing their friendly interaction.

See I’ve never been a “girlfriends” kind of girl.

My mother is a loner, her mother was a loner and so am I.

I’ve always had “associates” to do things with. To go out with . To go to the gym with. And now to do play dates with. But I never really had a group of girls to really connect with.

Besides my few close friends that I’ve had for many years now, I’ve deliberately stayed clear of the girlfriend culture.

Why?

Well let’s just say that I believed the hype.

You know the “dogma” that said; “chicks bring drama and are catty”.

I believed my mom when she told me that I only needed “associates” to do things with.

Yet through all of these years I felt something lacking.

I have a wonderful relationship with my husband, but he can’t be my girlfriend. I love my daughter and my mom but they can’t be my girlfriends.

As my daughter’s Daisy Scout leader said “there are just things and ways you can’t be when boys are around.”

And I am slowly coming to realize that moms need girlfriends too.

Transforming Your Body Through Yoga – A Path To Strength and Vitality

I began practicing yoga eleven years ago. I had heard about transforming your body through yoga and I thought it would be a fun and challenging way to exercise.

At that point I was in my early 20’s and did not have any health concerns or problems. I really didn’t need a “transformation”. I just wanted a new way to exercise.

So I bought a yoga DVD….umm VHS (it was that long ago it seems) and got downward facing dog on my living room floor.

As a relatively fit twenty something who had spent many years dancing and practicing gymnastics, the yoga postures actually came easy to me.

That was then….
